Bready Cricket Club in County Tyrone is not the most glamorous venue in world cricket — it lacks the grandeur of Lord's, the history of the MCG, or the atmosphere of Eden Gardens. But on Friday, it was the setting for one of the most exciting performances in the history of Ireland Women's cricket, as the home side defeated West Indies by 23 runs to level their three-match series and set up a decider that has captured the imagination of sports fans across the island.
Ireland, put in to bat by West Indies captain Hayley Matthews, posted a competitive total of 187 for 7 from their 50 overs, with captain Laura Delany top-scoring with a composed 67 from 82 balls. The innings was built on a solid opening partnership between Gaby Lewis and Leah Paul, who put on 72 for the first wicket before Lewis was dismissed for 38.
Ireland's Batting Performance
Delany's innings was the centrepiece of Ireland's batting effort — a captain's knock that combined technical discipline with the ability to accelerate when the situation demanded. Orla Prendergast contributed a vital 34 from 28 balls at number six, including two sixes off the final over that added crucial runs to the total. The double strike effectively ended West Indies' realistic chance of chasing down the target.
Spin bowler Cara Murray was equally impressive, taking 2 for 31 and maintaining a miserly economy rate throughout her spell. West Indies, who had looked threatening at 89 for 2 after 20 overs, collapsed to 164 all out in the 47th over, with Ireland's fielding — sharp and athletic throughout — contributing to the dismissal of three batters through run-outs.

The series decider takes place at Stormont Cricket Ground in Belfast on Monday, and the anticipation is already building.
